Raising a family can be extremely hard work, especially when the little ones are still, well, little. However, this North Carolina mom is doing everything she can to make it work. Karley is a mother of two boys, one of whom is only around 18 months old. In a recent TikTok video, a woman at the store can be heard talking about her son. The toddler was allegedly babbling to himself, like kids that age do, while they were in the grocery store. However, things would take a turn when the stranger seemed to have some words for the mother of two.
Newsweek reports that while the North Carolina mom was scanning her items in the checkout, the woman’s voice can be heard saying the toddler needs “a volume button.” Karley happened to be recording a grocery budgeting video for her TikTok while the incident occurred.
Rightfully so, Karley was pretty angry at the woman for speaking about her child like that. The 24-year-old Greensboro, North Carolina, native stated she felt “a tad taken aback” by the remark. It seems users from her TikTok’s comment section are mostly on Karley’s side. One even stated, “He’s just existing,” regarding the child.

In the video, writing can be seen on the screen that reads “Remember you are entitled to a child-free life, not a child-free world.” As Karley continued to explain the situation, she stated that it would have been a different story if her toddler had actually caused a scene in the store.
However, as heard in the video and confirmed by Karley herself, her child was just acting his age. On TikTok, viewers can also see the mother tend to her son multiple times. On top of all that, she was also attempting to pay for her groceries.
This North Carolina Mother stated she shared the video to raise awareness. Karley told the source she sees a lot of negativity from older people when it comes to children’s talking space. “Some people have adult expectations for children, and it’s frustrating.”
However, in the case of Karley and her toddler, hopefully, this was a one-time experience. The viral video has sparked numerous debates regarding how to parent your children correctly. However, it seems to be different for everyone. As for Karley and her children, hopefully, they won’t encounter any more mean strangers while out getting food for their family.
