A California woman is speaking out against the “caregiver” that she and her family hired to help her disabled and elderly mother. The woman took to social media to share her mother’s heartbreaking story, and she even came with receipts in the form of several videos of the so-called caregiver abusing her mother and berating her so badly that the elderly woman looked scared and sad. Meanwhile, the internet is up in arms, ready to take action and seek justice for the victim.
In a TikTok video that went viral in a matter of hours, the elderly woman is seen in Ring video footage taking a verbal bashing from her caregiver. The California social media user had had enough after seeing her mother being treated so poorly and was ready to share the story in hopes of spreading awareness of elderly abuse.
“Elderly abuse against my mother with a what we thought was a trusted person. Julie Rothgeb you should be ashamed of yourself,” the caption of one video read.
In the clip, the caregiver (Julie) can be seen waiting in the garage for her patient to slowly make her way toward the car for an outing. The elderly woman, who uses a walker to help her get around, shuffled toward the vehicle as Julie yelled at her to keep her head up and stop looking at the ground.

However, once Julie was ready to get inside the car, she noticed that the elderly woman had peanut butter and jelly on her shirt. She then began to berate her for her messy appearance, telling her that she should be embarrassed and even going as far as to call her a “pig.”
“Look at that,” Julie says as she reaches into the car to seemingly get some of the food off the woman. As she does, the patient can be heard saying “ow, ow.” Julie continues to verbally bash the woman. “You look like a pig. You’re disgusting,” she says.
In another video posted to the California woman’s account, Julie is seen shoving something in her patient’s face as the woman tries to resist. “This is wanted you wanted to see,” Julie says as she pushes the item in her face. “No, stop. Please. I don’t want to see it,” the patient yells as she attempts to push the caregiver’s hands away.
“Press charges,” one social media user commented, as the original poster confirmed that the family was taking legal action. “We are,” she replied.
“This is so heartbreaking 💔 I’m so sorry! Your mom deserves so much better,” another person wrote in the comment section.
“This made me cry. I can’t believe people act like this,” a third wrote.
Thankfully, the abuse was discovered and is now being handed over to the legal system. Hopefully, this California family can heal from this and get their mother the care she deserves.
