A Texas judge gave a stern response to a defendant who was wearing a rather inappropriate graphic on his t-shirt while attending court for a gun charge. While his unsuitable outfit is not an official crime per se, Jefferson County Judge Raquel West took umbrage with defendant Sammy Morris’s apparel, which featured the words “World’s Best Farter‘ emblazoned across his t-shirt.
The brief 30-second clip, which originally comes from 252nd District Court’s YouTube channel, is accompanied by the caption, “Judge rips into man for wearing ‘World’s Best Farter’ shirt in court” and sees the defendant entering the courtroom, with Judge West greeting him, “Good morning, sir.” When the defendant’s attire comes into full view, the Judge’s expression changes into a slightly disappointed, dejected look. “What made you think that was a good shirt to wear to court this morning?” fires the Judge, with a deflated expression on her face.
The defendant, however, sheepishly attempts to hide a sneaky smirk likely due to a bit of embarrassment. “That’s all you could find, that’s all? The only shirt you had in your closet? World’s best farter. That’s great.” continues the disappointed Judge, sarcastically. “No, it says. I can read it. I see what it says at the bottom.” she states, referencing the words, “I mean father” written just below the graphic design of the defendant’s shirt.
Ending her rebuke, the Judge clarifies, “You’re in felony court. You need to dress appropriately to felony court. And that’s not appropriate.”
As expected, social media users were amused by the awkward interaction and took to the comments to weigh in with their thoughts and reactions. Over on Reddit, one netizen joked, “She makes a fart noise at the end. Maybe she’s offended because she is the world’s best farter?” referencing the loud exhale the Judge makes at the end of her reprimand. More serious comments came in on TikTok, with one stating, “its a shirt. judges are just people doing a job. do your job not give fashion advice” and another expressing, “it was obviously a gift from his kid??“
While it’s not featured in the video, once the Judge let the defendant know his shirt wasn’t acceptable in court, she reset his case for 30 days so he could hire a lawyer.
