Jennifer Aniston may be one of the most recognizable faces in television history, but the “Friends” alum is setting her sights on a new stage literally. In a recent interview with PEOPLE, the 56-year-old actress revealed her long-held dream to perform on Broadway. โI definitely want to do a Broadway play,โ Aniston shared. โThatโs on my bucket list.โ

While she has off-Broadway experience from early in her career, Aniston emphasized that the timing and material have to be just right. โI absolutely have to do a play on Broadway,โ she stressed. โThe problem is finding the right piece, the right material.โ
The Emmy-winning actress, known for her role as Rachel Green in “Friends” and for her more recent performances in “The Morning Show” and films like “Cake” and “The Break-Up,” also opened up about needing to slow down. โIโm a bit of a workaholic, so Iโm forcing myself to try to take some time to travel and not work,โ she said. But while Aniston is manifesting a Broadway moment, the internet isnโt exactly rolling out the red carpet.
Jennifer Aniston Eyes Broadway Debut, But Not Everyoneโs Applauding
Social media users had no shortage of opinions, and many werenโt kind. โJennifer is boring. She doesnโt even look like herself after all the work she has had done,โ one critic wrote. Another added, โOnly if the Broadway play requires a whiny Rachelโฆthatโs all she can do and even that got annoying and monotonous.โ Others dismissed the idea entirely. โShe doesnโt have what it takes to perform on Broadwayโฆtalent,โ one comment read. Another sniped, โYawn,โ while a third quipped, โNo one cares.โ
“This woman is a self-involved bore, of the first order!” someone else wrote. “My pinky toenail has more talent than she will ever have.” Other critics added, “My bucket list is to experience a world where she is no longer famous,” and “She is NOT Broadway material in the slightest.”
Still, Anistonโs fans and industry peers may beg to differ. With decades of acting experience under her belt and a consistent presence in film and TV, itโs not hard to imagine the actress making the leap to live theater when the right role comes along. As for when we might see her under the bright lights of Broadway? That remains to be seen. But one thingโs certain, when (or if) it happens, people will be watchingโฆeven if some are just waiting to criticize from the front row.
