The dating scene is not always easy to face. No matter if it’s been weeks or years since you’ve dated, getting back on the saddle can be scary. However, one of the worst things you can do while you’re trying to make a potential match with another person is to lie about very important details concerning yourself and your life. One woman in Arizona was recently irritated to find her prospective Hinge date was lying about an important aspect, and she turned to social media to vent.

Lexee (@lexeetraas) posted her story on TikTok asking people for their thoughts after she caught a potential date in a lie. She starts by saying, “You guys, I’m so irritated. There’s this guy, OK? We’re chatting on Hinge, little bit of back and forth. He has listed in there, of course, his name, where he went to college, where he’s from, and his age.” She decided to play ‘detective’ to see if everything lined up with this guy, but she was surprised by what she found.

Lexee goes on to say that, following a Google search of the guy, she confirms his identity and phone number. She says, “Mind you we have plans for a date this coming weekend” so she wanted to make sure that he was who he said he was. The problem? “His profile says he’s 38. Google says he’s 40. I don’t care if he’s 40. What I care about is that he’s lying about his age, apparently.”

The impression that you make on somebody before or during a first date is important, so this lie has Lexee entirely frustrated. She asks her viewers, “And for why? Like can someone explain this to me? Because now I’m just like, I’m ready to cancel the date, right? That’s what I should do, right?” As many others would agree, one lie could lead to another lie and he may just be deceitful about all kinds of things. Lexee even goes as far as to say, “Because if you’re lying about that, you’re probably also lying about being a serial killer, no? If you’re lying about something like that, you’re lying about a lot of things, right?”

Lexee isn’t sure if she’s protecting herself with her decision to skip the Hinge date, of if she’s ‘overreacting.’ She says this is especially true because “he was so cute” and “looks so wholesome.” People in the comments sided with Lexee on her sentiment, however, agreeing that lying about your age is a total turn-off from the get-go.

One commenter shared their own story that didn’t end well to try and help Lexee with her decision. They said, “I matched with one who said he was 40 (I was 44 at the time). We date for a while. I find out he’s actually 50 and has a grown adult daughter in addition to his two young sons. He literally would take down all her pictures when I’d come over!” It’s a total red flag to virtually hide your family because you don’t want to uncover the truth about your age!

Another person angrily asked, “Newly divorced and WHY are these men using pictures from 10 YEARS ago?!” However, others said that it may not actually be a case of a man being intentionally deceptive. One suggested, “Maybe he’s been on the app for 2 years and hasn’t updated his age” while another said, “I’d just ask him! Sometimes those online lookup tools aren’t right.” Communication is the best way to start things off right in any relationship, so these are definitely some good suggestions that Lexee should take to heart.
