Despite being an essential part of society, construction workers can be some of the most inconsiderate individuals. A homeowner in Denver, Colorado, experienced this inconsiderate behavior firsthand when they returned from visiting their parents to discover their garden in an absolute mess. The construction crew next door had used the property as their “personal dumping ground,” dropping concrete chunks in the flowerbeds, tearing a hole in the picket fence, and killing the once-thriving tomato plants. “Apparently, wrecking my garden wasn’t enough; they had to litter, too,” the homeowner complained after finding wrappers from the construction workers’ lunch buried under their destroyed marigolds.

After some effort, the Colorado resident finally got in touch with the managing office of the next-door construction workers. “Oh yeah we can compensate you for that,” the manager vaguely responded, but what does he actually mean? “Like are we talking $50 Home Depot gift card or actual replacement costs?” OP questioned suspiciously. “Because my destroyed plants and broken sprinkler timer aren’t exactly cheap to replace.” It appears that the managing office is merely attempting to appease the homeowner by promising compensation without actually considering reimbursement or repairing the damages.

“Take pictures of everything, document everything and go see a lawyer immediately,” a top commenter says, imploring the Colorado homeowner to plan on taking legal action as soon as possible. Any person replying agreed, noting, “You put love and labor into that garden, don’t let them bulldoze over that without accountability.” Others recommend that OP consider itemizing what was destroyed so that they can perhaps file small claims while also adding in labor costs to upkeep the garden. Whatver the case, it’s crucial that OP doesn’t take this lying down and make every single damage done a huge deal. There’s plenty the workers did wrong, including trespassing and destruction of private property, to name two.

Whether it’s working on a weekend, disturbing the peace for neighbors, or vandalizing another’s property for the sake of their job, construction workers really need to start thinking about others.
