Woman Attends ‘Unorganized Disaster’ Wedding in Washington, ‘Literally Had a Nightmare Similar to This Scenario the Other Night’

You could’ve hired an organizer

When you plan a wedding, you have to plan for everything, otherwise it’s a chaotic mess. One woman on r/weddingshaming shared her experience with a disastrous wedding in Washington. The mess left her flabbergasted—and hungry. The newlyweds were from the south but wanted a wedding at a state park. People were told to stay at a hotel in Tacoma, but then had to drive two hours to the park. Even the bachelorette party was planned last-minute, just two days before the wedding. That’s just the tip of the iceberg!

OP spoke of the lack of organization. For example, the bride never booked a place for the bridesmaids to get food and drink. So, they wandered from bar to bar until they found a place that could seat them. Then there was the rehearsal dinner. Apparently, there weren’t enough seats for everyone and shopping for the snacks happened extremely last-minute. Recognizing a theme here?

As OP described, the wedding day itself was utter chaos. This included so much running around, people didn’t have breakfast. Not to mention completely unaware of the ‘no-snack’ rule on the bus to the park, which was accompanied by rain. OP said the day was pretty cold but the actual wedding ceremony was “beautiful.”

However, after the ceremony, photography became a big waste of time for everybody. OP said, “The couple goes off to take pictures and is gone for nearly two hours, while the rest of the guests just kind of linger.” She continued, “Those of us in dresses have piled back onto the bus because at least the driver turned the heat on. There is one porta potty, and again – no food.” Talk about being inconsiderate!

The lack of planning continues to show itself back at the hotel: “No reception, no venue for dinner, nothing.” After everybody sat and planned on where they were going to get some grub, they all decided on going to a nearby casino so they could chow down at a buffet. But if you’re going to throw a wedding with all those people, why wouldn’t you plan to feed them, too? To add insult to injury, the bride was allegedly devastated over nobody wanting to stick around after the buffet.

Redditors apparently couldn’t believe what they were reading. One said, “If this is true, it’s one of the saddest stories that’s been posted. Couples who invite people to their wedding are the HOSTS and they don’t seem to grasp that concept. They are the ones responsible for the guests’ experience.”

Other commenters questioned how you can possibly fail to plan for your own wedding and why snacks weren’t permitted on the bus (which, to be fair, I was also curious about.) Letting things ‘just happen’ at such a major event is never the way to go, as it turns out. This bride and groom may have regretted how they handled things but the fact remains: The guests will remember it as a disaster.
