Disney fans might finally be getting their wish, a brand-new theme park at Walt Disney World. According to a recently released Comprehensive Plan 2045 from the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, a fifth major park could be in the works for the Orlando resort. The documents outline development capacity for one major theme park and two minor theme parks, sparking excitement and speculation across the Disney community. If built, this would be the first new “gate” since Disney’s Animal Kingdom opened in 1998, over 25 years ago.
The potential fifth park is expected to span 400 to 500 acres, placing it on par with other fan-favorite destinations, such as Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom. The two smaller parks are assumed to be water parks, each covering approximately 147 acres.
While Walt Disney World has not officially confirmed plans for a fifth park, the development proposal includes mapped-out land for future entertainment, conservation, commercial areas, and hotel expansion. It also requests permission to install underground communication lines, commonly used by cast members to navigate the parks out of view of guests, hinting that preparations for something big may be underway.

Still, not everyone is thrilled. The Daily Mail’s report on the potential expansion sparked harsh criticism from some readers, many of whom slammed the idea and used the opportunity to take jabs at Disney’s corporate direction. “WokeLand??? Magic Wokedom???” one commenter mocked, while another added, “Trans World? Hard pass. Boycott Disney ABC.” Others focused on the costs, calling the current pricing model “outrageous” and accusing the company of building “another overpriced amusement park for a captive audience to indulge in the $150 Mickey Mouse burger.” One person proudly declared, “So proud to say I’ve never been to Disney and have plans to ensure that never changes,” while another flatly wrote, “Disney can go scratch.”
Despite the backlash, the idea of a fifth gate has reignited excitement among longtime Disney fans, especially as the resort eyes a new era of growth. “It would be super cool to see a park themed to Walt Disney,” one X user said. “Incorporate his designs and favorite attractions and his vision for what a theme park should be.” Another echoed, “Disney Yesteryear. A home for classic rides and retro-themed attractions. It would satisfy a significant portion of the Disney fandom while alleviating resistance to making changes at other parks. Bring back 20,000 Leagues, Mr. Toad, etc.”
