Most of the time, TikTok trends leave me cringing and asking where we went wrong as a species. Every now and then, I see something wholesome and adorable. It’s a treat to me because the platform usually isn’t anything like that. A woman in New York is believed to have started a trend involving her boyfriend that took off and now others are joining in. It’s both hilarious and loving, and I’m here for it.

The trend was believed to be coined by @yearningyardies on TikTok. The video starts out with her saying, in an incredibly intimidating voice, “My boyfriend wants to show you more of his plants so you BETTER say nice things.” She then steps into the background but keeps eye contact with viewers. Meanwhile, her boyfriend steps in front with a little garden box. He sweetly puts his box into the frame and shows off his strawberry plant, his chives, and garlic. The entire time, his girlfriend is standing and clapping for him in the background. When he says goodbye to his fans, she snaps at the screen and says, “Say something nice!”

This fierce defense of a partner’s hobbies is actually really sweet and, humor aside, necessary. This is especially true in a world where people are always judging others for their hobbies online. Now, others are hopping on the trend and acting overly protective as their male partners show off their hobbies. It’s a flurry of toy figurines, paintings, and more!

Commenters played along with @yearningyardie’s video and many did show genuine support as well. True to form, one viewer said, “Girl I watched this 3 times I wasn’t sure if I was allowed to leave”. And “They are AMAZING! (please don’t hurt me).”

Another commented, “He makes me want to grow plants now” to which OP replied, “I hope you give it a try soon! It’s rewarding.” This aggressive display of love is spreading so much positive joy from one TikTok to the next. I do hope it’s giving men the confidence boost that they need when it comes to their hobbies!

One male commenter said on a video of the new trend, “Okay, whatever this new trend is of women aggressively supporting and defending their (us) men with “nerdy” hobbies – I’m 100% down for it.” Everybody deserves to be happy and showcase what they enjoy most in life, and even more when your girlfriend or boyfriend are hyping you up.
