Far too many individuals are experiencing difficult times during our abysmal economic climate. It’s hard to always make the rent, pay for groceries, and keep up with so many other bills. Unfortunately, many employers make this more difficult by paying too little to keep up with the failing economy. One woman in Texas tried her best to make a difference in the life of a worker and I’m cheering for her.

The video was posted on TikTok by V (@vistheway) with the caption: “My Lyft ride was $80 I ask the driver how much they paying you she says $20. I said cancel that ride here go $40 cash! Looks like we both winning.” For years, more and more people have been turning to rideshare services as a way to bring in cash. This is especially true in major cities where everybody needs rides every hour of the day.

Unfortunately, many individuals don’t take into consideration that the actual costs of operation add up. On top of keeping your car in tip-top shape so you can keep giving these services, taxes, gas, and more need to be considered. In the end, Lyft and other rideshare companies keep major profits from drivers when it’s time to pay out.

This is why V thought she would save them both money and give her driver a little cash in her pocket that she could hold onto without worrying about only receiving a small portion of it. V went on to say in her caption, “All these charges these Ride share people tax you on! Let me make a deal for you!”

Viewers shared that they, too, have canceled rides previously so that they could hand raw cash to their drivers. One person shared, “This happened to me. They were giving the driver $50 and charged me almost $300. Canceled and gave him $150.”

Another shared her compassionate and feel-good tale, “I bartend and found a woman driver to pick me up on my late shifts. Uber only paid her $8, I paid $20. She purposely worked those late shifts so women had a women driver and felt safer. We gotta stick together.”

It’s so wholesome to see people showing up for one another. In a world where so many of us struggle, a helping hand for something that seems minor is no small gesture.
