It’s officially summer, and in some parts of the world, that means extreme heat. While many across the United States are dealing with a heatwave that has sent temperatures soaring, one woman in Arizona knows exactly how to handle the high temps. However, upon sharing the summer hack with the internet, it seems clear that not everyone was fully understanding the creative way she’s helping herself out this summer, and possibly saving herself from injury in the process.

In a now-viral TikTok video, a woman in Arizona showed off one person’s heatwave hack, and it left many confused and questioning exactly what was going on. In the video, there are several doors to the apartments seen. These doors lead outside as the complex is open. Some of the apartment doors are in the direct path of the sun, and with the extreme temperatures that have been surging everywhere, including the desert, one person took matters into their own hands, literally.

One of the apartment doors had an extra accessory, a gray pot holder was seen hanging fro the metal handle used to open the door. Some were so confused by what this could mean, and how it was meant to help beat the heat, saying things like “I don’t get it” in the comments. That is, until others who definitely understood the person’s thought process began to explain.

It seems that the apartment resident hung the pot holder on the handle so that while opening her door from the outside, she could use it and not burn herself on the obviously hot metal handle.

“For ppl confused they put an oven mitt on the door handle so when they open the door instead of burning ur hand on the metal they use the mitt,” one person explained in the comments section.

“The way i didnt even get it for a good 2 seconds. Is it really that hot???” another said, prompting the video poster to reply, “yes.”

“I live in Vegas but it’s pretty much the same temperature and no one talks about how if you wear jewelry it immediately heats up and burns your skin when you step outside it’s truly THAT hot,” another chimed in.

“Yes people it gets that hot. Getting into your car feels like you’re entering an oven,” a fourth comment read.

“This is genius,” said another.

It seems that some people may have learned something, and others even suggested using the hack for other areas like their car seatbelts or to shift gears. The video has garnered more than 5 million views since it was posted, so this Arizona woman can be credited for helping others to combat the heat this summer.
