An unusual dynamic, with a one-woman staff running a McDonald’s restaurant in Texas, has drawn widespread concern. A video filmed by a concerned patron and shared on TikTok shows the female staff single-handedly taking and preparing the orders in the kitchen. As seen in the clip, the staff was in the kitchen scurrying to pack an order for a box of chips. She laid out the packaging, placed the chips in the box, and labeled the package. The camera panned to show the front counter and the sitting area, clearly revealing that no other staff were present.
The individual recording the clip was heard complaining bitterly about the numerous responsibilities the staff was managing alone. “She’s running the entire restaurant by herself,” the recorder lamented before listing the tasks the staff did.
The patron explained, “I was like third in line, then I started noticing that there’s nobody else back there. And she’s working on multiple orders and doing the drive-thru window. Absolutely Nuts!
A closer look at the video indeed showed that customers were waiting at the drive-thru to be served. The video recorder went on to criticize the corporation for overworking the staff and demanded that she get a raise.
In the accompanying caption to the video, the customer urged McDonald’s to “do better,” and added a link to a GoFundMe account created to support the staff. The link called for donations for the employee, detailing that although the woman was hard-working, she was underpaid. So far, over $ 5,000 has been raised, surpassing the goal of $11,000.
The video has garnered over five million views and thousands of comments, with many netizens expressing anger over the woman’s apparent poor employment conditions. An account of someone identified as the staff’s son dropped a heartbreaking comment. The user wrote:
“That’s my mom’s right there. I always tell her it’s unfair how they treat her, but she’s always pushing through it, because unfortunately this big company’s do not and I repeat they do not care for their hard working employees but only what’s in their bank accounts…. She’s been part of McDonald’s for over 25 + years.”
Onenetizen condemned the Trump administration for deporting hard-working Latinos. “And that’s who’s getting deported hard hard-working people. America please do BETTER!” the netizen criticized.
A second user asked, “Where’s the MAGA folks complaining about how everyone else is stealing their jobs? I don’t see them working here.”
This individual listed out the missing roles, writing, “It’s missing a cook, fryer, front cashier, and expediter! This is so sad! We all know she’s not getting paid enough.”
