Most ‘Nasty and Disgusting’ Texas Tenants Leave Landlord Speechless After Leaving Behind Huge Mess: ‘There Are SOOOOO Many Roaches’

What an inhumane way to live…

Whether you’re a renter or the owner of a residence, maintaining a generally hygienic and clean living space is a basic necessity. However, the tenants of a home in Texas threw what was left of their dignity out the window when vacating. Not only were they late and inconsistent with payments during their stay, but they also left behind a gigantic, roach-infested mess for the landlord to clean up. On top of that, they didn’t take a bunch of their belongings: clothes, toys, shampoo — you name it. The unfortunate owner was left speechless.

[Landlord US-TX] Tenants left huge mess, and many things. What can I do?

“The tenants left sooooo much, and left it nasty and disgusting, always paid late (never even the full amount. They were friends, so we let it slide for a while),” the Texas landlord explains. Now, in the appalling pigsty that remained, “There are SOOOOO many roaches!” the owner exclaims in disgust. With so many household items left behind, they wonder if there are any legal issues with keeping or tossing out any of the things the tenants didn’t take with them.

The majority of users on Reddit for the landlord’s complaint post about the nightmarish tenants believe being firm and intolerant is the key to dealing with the vacated renters’ items. “Rent a dumpster and don’t give back their deposit. Do not try to sell or keep any items,” instructs a top commenter. Another agrees, saying, “in something like this 100%, throw it all away.” With a roach infestation, there’s no telling what other sorts of nastiness and creepy crawlies the residents left behind. The owner shouldn’t take any chances keeping the things they didn’t take. “How TF do people live like that?!” one person remarked in disbelief.

Unfortunately, the cost of money and effort to throw out everything and clean up the place will still be pretty substantial for the Texas landlord. At least they learned an important lesson regarding friends as tenants: Every renter should be held to the same standard and degree of accountability regardless. And with the way these tenants were living, it’s likely they’ll leave only to mess up another place. “Sucks you had sh*tty tenants but at least they are out now,” as one commenter puts it. Still, you have to feel bad for the kids with such irresponsible parents.
