An influencer from Tennessee has garnered support from conservatives and also riled up the liberals after selling clothing and hats for the infamous Alligator Alcatraz of Florida. Apart from the odd choice of merchandise to promote, some crticis have also called out the Tennessee influencer for her presumably fake and exaggerated Southern US accent.
PettyCrocker88 is the woman and influencer in question and recently, she posted a video condeming people who are critical of the Texas flood rescue efforts, and that was after she sold merchandise glorifying the Alligator Alcatraz in Florida. It’s also worth noting that her account is serious and the websites for the merchandise are legitimate.
For the record, Alligator Alcatraz has drawn much controversy as an inhumane prison as its main purpose is to detain immigrants who are then to be surrounded by a moat full of local alligators. People were thus quick to point out the hypocrisy in PettryCrocker88’s promotion, supporting something harmful and cruel as Alligator Alcatraz while also rallying in support of flood victims and holding MAGA accountable.
PettyCrocker88’s rather plain and rudimentarily designed Alligator Alcatraz shirts are also being sold for around $28. Most of them feature art about alligators wearing MAGA hats (weirdly enough) and some have President Trump alongside an alligator. While some have questioned the clothing’s absurd theme, others are actually happy to buy them and there’s no shortage of serious supporters.
People Online Aren’t Buying Petty Crocker’s Merch and Her Accent
Just as PettyCrocker88 has serious supporters, there are also serious critics who aren’t just not buying the merchandise– they’re also not buying the Tennessee infuencer’s accent as well. Many on the linked Reddit thread have started calling PettyCrocker88 fake or even a self-serving right-wing grifter, something that isn’t new these days.
Hence, PettyCrocker88 has been called out, especially for what people have assumed as a deliberate mockery of the Southern US accent. It’s also worth noting that PettyCrocker88 isn’t exactly the first right-wing figurehead to sell merchandise that praises Trump. The White House has also officially made its own “Daddy Trump” shirt designs and art a few weeks ago.
In any case, many viewers are still in disbelief at what exactly is happening among right-wing influencers and it was only fair of them to get the impression that PettyCrocker88’s page and whole schtick is some form of satire. Well, it’s not; and given how being a racist right-winger has netted someone millions of dollars, we can expect to see more grifting these days.
