Do you ever hear a story and go, “This is why we can have nice things?” Well, the unfortunate tale of friendly neighborhood man David Martin of Arizona will definitely make some sickened by how annoying some individuals can be. For years, the homeowner has wanted to be a blessing to his community by offering chilled water in a cooler for anyone passing by his house, free of charge. Anyone living in Arizona will know that summers can be gruesome, so a bottle of cold, refreshing water can feel like a godsend. However, his local HOA is actively trying to sabotage what Martin’s doing by finding him hundreds of dollars.
More specifically, the HOA has been fining Martin $100 a month every time he chooses to leave out his water bottle cooler during the summertime. The battle between him and his HOA has been going on for some time now, but 12 News reports that some of the group members plan to take legal action against him and those who support him. What happened was that three HOA board members who opposed Martin’s community donation of free water were voted off the board by his supporters. Now, they seek retaliation, saying that they believe they were unjustly treated. Talk about irony.
I think we can all agree, “Never let Karens become HOA members,” as a YouTube comment puts it. While neighbors and other members of the community appreciate what Martin is doing, the HOA “Karens” out to get him certainly have entitlement issues off the charts. “When your politics makes giving people water an offense, your politics are wrong,” remarks a Redditor. “😂 ohhh noooo not a guy giving out free water!!! How could he possibly do such a thing…thats crazy.” jokes a third.
The fact that he has to deal with not just pesky HOA but outrageous fines and possible legal action is absurd. And for what? Giving out free water to his community! It feels like some Americans have lost track of what’s actually a problem in today’s age. Seeing the current political climate, it’s not hard to see why that’s the case.
