Sydney Sweeney is gaining fan support amid her ongoing American Eagle storm. The actress, 27, debuted her ambassador status with the clothing brand at the end of July, posting an Instagram video of herself in a sleeveless top and baggy jeans as she dropped her “Sydney has good jeans” campaign.
The post, which is still live on Sydney’s Instagram, sparked the beginning of a high-profile and explosive storm, one largely centering around a statement Sydney makes in one of her promo videos. The White Lotus star, whose script plays on the word “jeans,” says that she has “good genes.” The digital space did not welcome such a statement, given that it came from a blonde white woman. Both Sydney and American Eagle have since become embroiled in a racism storm, with some even accusing the campaign of promoting white supremacy. Over on Sydney’s Instagram, fans have been supporting her, with many telling her not to back down.
Sydney Sweeney Gains Back-Up On Instagram Amid American Eagle Storm
The footage showed Sydney with a vintage car as she modeled a casual look courtesy of American Eagle. While the video is over a week old, the comments pouring in are fresh. In the past 24 hours, users have rallied around Sydney, who is seen flaunting her figure in a white tank top paired with wide-legged jeans.
“I have great jeansโฆnow you can too,” Sydney wrote in her caption, also confirming her partner status with American Eagle. Noting the global headlines Sydney has made, and the White House has even made a statement, one user replied: “DON’T APOLOGIZE! You did nothing wrong.” Over 4,000 fans liked the reply.
Nothing Wrong With ‘Looking Attractive’ In A Campaign?
Sydney’s storm has sparked more focus on her, with her voter registration as a Republican now public knowledge. When one fan said that the man Sydney voted for would’ve shipped her off “to an island,” another user replied: “It’s a jeans ad using someone who is attractive It’s not that deep.”
Sydney’s video is considered to be one of the biggest PR catasrophes of all time. In the footage, the A-lister star has “jeans” crossed out as “genes” appears in text.“Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair colour, personality and even eye color,” Sydney says in the video. American Eagle has since made a statement defending its ad campaign choice. Sydney herself, however, has remained silent amid the massive drama.
