You can’t always believe everything you see on the internet. In the case of TikTok user Ortal Edri, this rings especially true. When a video of her serenading her husband at a Las Vegas chapel went viral, people had their own opinions. As it turns out, Edri is a practiced vocal coach. And the clip of her soon-to-be husband escaping his own wedding? It’s not what everyone thinks.

Well, good thing what happens in Vegas stays there, right?

Approximately 120,000 people get married in Vegas each year. Edri and her fiancé recently accounted for two of those statistics. Their wedding video got the attention of more than 1.5 million viewers. Many watched Edri serenade her husband with Elvis Presley’s I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You, and some comments were sweet. Others, however, had their own opinions on the situation.

The original video was captioned, “POV: When you decide to surprise your camera-shy husband with a wedding song and you had to chase him down the chapel because he disappeared on you.” It shows Edri singing with help from a Vegas Presley in the background, though her fiancé inches out of view of the camera. When Edri finally locates him at the back of the chapel, another caption pops on the screen, saying, “*found him.”

Replying to @Adele We planned the wedding in just four days — Far from our families, with only a few close friends who could make it. The ceremony was limited to 30 minutes, so there was no time for a soundcheck. I tried to take the lead and ease the pressure off my husband, who was overwhelmed with nerves and emotion. It didn’t go exactly as planned… but it is what it is! #myall #mariahcarey #elvis #weddin

Viewers were quick to judge the couple, with one saying, “She’s got that death grip on his hand. Side question: Does Vegas do quickie divorces?” Another wrote, “Did… did she surprise him with this wedding? I don’t think he knew he was the groom.” One viewer, seemingly fed up with the negativity, wrote, “The comments are so disappointing. It’s a wedding, of course, she’s having a main character moment.“

Edri herself responded, proving that you can’t always judge a book by its cover. Or, in this case, a wedding by its chapel. She posted a second video, captioned, “POV: When people judge your wedding without knowing the full story.” She tells viewers the wedding was planned in only four days, a monumental feat for any engaged couple. Edri also explains that they only had 30 minutes, during which she took the lead, so there was no pressure on her husband. With no family in attendance and only a few close friends, it’s easy to understand how nerves could get the best of you.

Replying to @Madison Humphrey I gave my voice to the best parody of our viral wedding video… so you can’t say I’m not a good sport 🎤😂 I swear we laughed so hard Love you: @Madison Humphrey

In this second video, you can clearly see her groom recording the entire event. He is no runaway groom, and Edri even posted a third video explaining how the serenade was a surprise for him. All in all, a classic case of don’t judge until you know the whole story. In this case, a classic Vegas love story — or so we hope.
