Gas stations can get bizarre and outright outlandish at night, and for people at North Liberty, Iowa, what happened recently was likely their weirdest gas station encounter yet. A woman who was hammered drunk kept asking people in the Iowa gas station to blow into her car’s breathalyzer or interlock device. For this, the woman was arrested, and police even discovered that she was way past relatively safe levels of intoxication.

34-year-old Kristin State is the Iowa woman in question, and according to the North Liberty Police Department (courtesy of KCRG), she drove up to a Kwik Star gas station on July 4 way too drunk. Thankfully, State was alone in her DUI session, though witnesses and reports in the scene recall of how she kept asking passers-by and strangers to breathe into her interlock device for some reason, likely to avoid getting tagged for DUI in case she ran into police.

Well, it turns out what State did was a self-fulfilling prophecy because the people she asked for a breath sample called 911, and the cops eventually responded to the scene. State was then arrested and taken to Johnson County Jail. During the arrest, the State failed two field sobriety tests, and testing revealed that her blood alcohol was .351, which is way past the point of what is considered legally intoxicated. In fact, depending on your tolerance, .351 alcohol levels can be lethal.

“.351 could be lethal to normal people, that’s wild,” according to a Reddit user

“.4 and above is where it starts to get lethal but if you are a pro or on amphetamines you can still be functional.”

People are Shocked by the Woman’s Tolerance

It’s also worth noting that blood alcohol level drops gradually per hour, meaning the State’s peak blood alcohol during her DUI could be much higher than .351g. Surprisingly, it appears State managed to avoid accidents. However, this latest incident likely won’t be a lesson for her as the Iowa woman has had three prior convictions related to operating while under the influence over the past 12 years.

Meanwhile, other people online were wondering how exactly State managed to somehow function and even think well enough to cover up her drunkenness. Some have assumed her to be a pro or perhaps just genetically disposed to have a high tolerance. Of course, there were other assumptions that the Iowa woman could be an extreme and chronic alcoholic, given her history with DUI, and her attempts to avoid further DUI cases to her rap sheet were in vain.

“My mom used to make me do this as a kid when she had one installed in her car,” recalls a Reddit user regarding the DUI avoidance tactic

“.351 and still conscious?!?”

“She had a little blood in her alcohol stream.”

“Alcoholism. People who drink all the time and have a very high alcohol tolerance can hit much higher numbers without the same kind of physical consequences that someone who doesn’t drink that much would have.”
