Gaming and comic book conventions are still as strong as ever, bringing in crowds of fans from all kinds of franchises. Honestly, I’ve always been partial to attending yearly conventions purely for the fun of exploring and seeing others be their genuine and unique selves. Of course, there’s also the concept of camaraderie, which seems to be bursting at the seams in some convention spaces. Virginia trading card vendor beard_dad_cardz helped a customer of his get a bit closer toward his goal of getting a $40 Lego set. However, when beard_dad_cardz’s chat saw what was going on, they decided to jump in and help!

Beard_dad_cardz is a popular Pokémon card vendor who frequents local and out-of-state conventions, allowing him to sell, buy, and trade cards. This particular interaction at Collect a Con in Kansas City involved a young boy and his mother who were looking to sell a few Pokemon cards in exchange for cash. The boy’s goal was to earn a minimum of $40 to try to purchase a particular Lego set, or a maximum of $160 for a much more expensive set. After hearing what the boy’s goals were, Beard_dad_cardz looked over everything the boy had to try and make him an offer.

Unfortunately, nothing caught the vendor’s eye, so he decided to strike a deal with the boy instead. If the boy chose to donate his cards to children who had none to play with, Beard_dad_cardz would give him $20 toward his $40 Lego set. The boy and his mother were thrilled with the idea and eagerly accepted the offer. Just moments later, the vendor’s chat donated additional funds to help the boy purchase his Lego set. Upon hearing this, the vendor pulled out another $20 from his wallet, explained what his chat had done, and gifted it to the boy.

You can immediately see the boy’s face light up at the idea of total strangers helping him towards his goal. Commenters on the video lit up the replies, boasting the kid’s social skills and general kindness, with one person even saying, “still good kids out there.” Pokemon card collecting is such a delicate niche, and there are all sorts of bad actors hoping to prey on those who just don’t have the same kind of knowledge. However, this was an example of a genuine love for the game of collecting and having fun. I hope that kid was able to purchase the set he was hoping for!
