A shocking video out of Hammond, Indiana, is sparking outrage after showing a brutal assault on a man with autism who was simply biking home from work. 44-year-old Scott Lindsey, who lives with autism and rides his bike daily to and from his job at a local grocery store, was passing through Hessville Park on August 15 when his routine commute turned violent. He stopped to get a drink at a public fountain, but that’s when a group of teens on bikes surrounded him and began shouting. “They said I was following them too closely,” Scott recalled. “And then… they started hitting me.”

The group punched and kicked Scott repeatedly, knocking him to the ground. Even worse, one of the attackers filmed the assault and posted it online. The video shows Scott on the ground as fists fly, a horrifying glimpse into the abuse he suffered simply for being different.

Scott lost multiple front teeth in the beating. His stepfather, Brian Beatty, said it was clear the group targeted Scott because of his vulnerability. “It was entertainment to them,” Beatty said. “Because they saw he was autistic and knew he wouldn’t fight back.”

Outrage and Support Grow as Police Investigate

Despite the attack being caught on camera, no arrests have been made. The suspects fled before police arrived, leaving Scott bloodied and traumatized. Now, his family faces thousands of dollars in dental work, and Scott’s story is drawing attention across social media. Many are calling for justice, and some are suggesting a fundraiser to support his recovery.

“He doesn’t hurt anyone,” Beatty said. “He works hard, rides his bike, and minds his business. This shouldn’t happen to anyone, especially not him.”

Scott, remarkably, remains calm: “I’m feeling fine,” he told reporters. But viewers who’ve seen the video are left shaken. What happened to Scott wasn’t just an assault, it was a failure of basic decency.
