A former employee of the Connecticut Department of Correction has taken to TikTok to share what she calls years of bullying, unsafe conditions, and poor management inside the agency. The Connecticut woman worked there for five years before leaving and now uses her platform to highlight what she says many staff members still endure.

In her posts, she explained that she was afraid to speak up at first but now feels responsible for being a voice for others. “Enough is enough,” she said, adding that many workers remain because they need health insurance or cannot afford to leave. She described herself as only one person but said she knows many others have similar stories and feel trapped in a toxic workplace.

Concerns About Nurses and Overtime

In one video, she focused on the department’s difficulty keeping nurses. She claimed new nurses often leave quickly because senior nurses treat them badly. According to her, some longtime staff members rely on overtime to pay their bills and view new employees as a threat to those extra hours. “Do better, state of Connecticut,” she said, accusing the system of failing both its workers and the people it serves.

An Incident With a Shank

In another video, she spoke directly to families of incarcerated people. She explained that lockdowns are not always about punishment but are sometimes needed for safety. She gave an example of a coworker who had a shank held to his neck shortly after becoming a father. Instead of showing concern, she said the warden wanted “normal operations” to continue as if nothing had happened. To her, this showed a complete lack of care for the officer’s life and his newborn child. She said that correctional officers cannot keep inmates safe if they are working under fear and trauma, constantly asking themselves if they might be next.

To the families of the incarcerated, please hear me out. I know this video is a little long, but it comes from the heart. Correctional staff, as a collective, are not against you or your loved ones. We just want a safe environment for everyone. Staff and the incarcerated included. #departmentofcorrections #mentalhealthmatters #jailtok #lockdowns #connecticut

Netizens React to Connecticut Woman’s Criticism of DoC

Many viewers thanked her for speaking out. “You are NOT a nobody!! Speak your truth,” one person commented. Another added, “Tell it and thank you. Correction is a bully and upper administration don’t never see anything. Glad I made it out safely.” A commenter, who identified themself as a former teacher of hers, wrote, “You are somebody. You are brilliant and your voice matters. I’m so proud of you for speaking your truth. ❤️Mrs. K from stone.” Someone else said, “God bless you!! I admire your strength and courage… you are a SOMEBODY ❤️❤️.”

There were people who shared their own experiences in the comments, with one writing, “That’s why I left, so true, they act like they don’t wanna work with your schedule 🙄, then they want to mandate you every chance they get.” A second remarked, “Yesss! Thank you! I had someone tell me being a nurse for CT DoC would be the BEST decision I ever made with the best pay, benefits, etc. I respectfully advised them they were incorrect.”

Some said the problems go beyond corrections and involve management issues. “Seems like state of CT is failing in all departments involving the people. Smfh hate this state,” one netizen wrote. A different person said, “It’s the nurses that are toxic. I went to DMHAS but it’s horrible all over the state!” “Management is well aware of said ‘bullies’ because of the MANY complaints and nothing is done about it so why would they stop 🤷🏽‍♀️,” another commented. One other viewer added, “Really, I’m glad I didn’t get the job.”
