Racism over a price check request? In August, an Iraqi woman at a Macy’s in Broomfield, Colorado, claims that’s exactly what happened. While shopping with her mother, who asked a store employee about an item’s cost, she says they were the targets of hostile, racist remarks. Now, nearly four full weeks later, they still haven’t gotten the “sorry” they rightfully deserve.
The woman has posted a video on her TikTok channel @im_justa_girl003. She initially expected a Colorado Macy’s retail representative to reach out to her and her mom. Her emails have apparently not been acknowledged at all. She’s made it her mission to re-post the footage of the fake apology the manager provided until someone replies.
In one of her first TikTok posts of the incident, @im_justa_girl0033 gave more details:
Lisa had the audacity to refer to my mother and me as “undocumented people.” She told another store employee, “Watch out for those undocumented people. They come here to steal.” When I confronted her about this, she told me to “go back home.”
Broomfield Colorado Manager Sweeps It All Away
In the video, Lisa (the one dressed in black) yells, “Stay away from me,” before a manager steps in and attempts to intervene. While viewers only see the final seconds of the conflict, it’s evident neither employee wants to take the blame.
The manager quickly tells Lisa to leave the Macy’s sales floor. She then offers up what is often considered to be a fauxpology:
I’m so sorry that happened to you, but I am gonna send her off the floor, and I do ask you not film…
We hear the mother asking for another manager, but the response of the manager standing in front of her isn’t caught on film.
As of September 3rd, @im_justa_girl003 states that she’s still waiting for something more to be done. Her multiple re-posts have thousands of views, and she’s hoping she gets the attention of someone in charge.
Many viewers have expressed their shock and surprise over customers being treated so abhorrently. Others have stated the opposite, claiming bad behavior by the store employees is not something shocking at all.
Many are now tagging Macy’s, demanding that a Colorado retail representative take the appropriate actions to reach a resolution. Hopefully, a genuine apology ensues.
