A California post office became the stage for an outrageous and unintentionally hilarious scene this week when an elderly woman, quickly branded a “Karen” by the internet, was filmed shrieking at staff over one of the smallest possible grievances: not knowing exactly where to place a return label on her envelope.
The footage, first shared on Reddit before making the rounds on TikTok (where it was later removed by the original uploader), shows the woman unleashing a high-pitched tirade at clerks, demanding the supervisor’s number and screaming so relentlessly that one staffer warned she might “give [herself] a heart attack yelling like that.”
Instead of folding under pressure, the post office employees pushed back with a mix of hilarious quips and dry humor. When the raging customer insisted she needed the name of the woman helping her, a clerk coolly responded: “You want this bitch’s name? Whatever your name is, that’s the bitch’s name.” Another Redditor summed it up best: “Lol shifting to mother mode with a child having a temper tantrum is a brilliant move by the clerk.”
Throughout the encounter, the woman screeches for police to be called, mocks the person filming for recording her, and accuses the bystander of refusing to help. The person behind the camera, however, points out that this isn’t the first time the “Karen” has caused chaos at the branch, which perhaps hints at a history of meltdowns.
Sadly, the video ends without resolution, as I’d love to have seen how they removed her from the building. Still, viewers were left with no shortage of entertainment. One Reddit user wrote: “Tbh, I could watch her for hours on end. She is totally unhinged.” Another joked: “RIP my eardrums, holy shit her voice is so shrill all the dogs in my vicinity started barking.”
Despite a few commenters feeling brief sympathy, most agreed the woman crossed the line from confused customer to nightmare regular long ago. As one post bluntly put it: “I stop feeling sorry for people like that after a certain point when their behavior crosses a line. Like she did.”
It’s unclear what ultimately happened after the camera cut off. Certainly, though, this clip has earned its place in the pantheon of “Karen” meltdowns, complete with all the classics: demands for a supervisor, over-the-top screaming, and the tragic inability to handle basic snail mail.
