In a bid to fight what looked like theft in a mall, an Indiana man harassed and assaulted a woman, sparking heated debates online. The video posted on TikTok showed a man exiting the store, reaching out to a woman in a jean jacket, wig, and handbag. “Excuse me… hey, come on now, what are you doing?” he called out as she tried to walk away. The woman, visibly uneasy, quickened her pace, yelling, “Don’t touch me.”
Ignoring her protests, the man grabbed her bag and demanded her name. She resisted, shouting “let go of me,” but he refused, insisting she had stolen. Another woman at the scene appeared to be calling the police, as the confrontation escalated.
“I’ll dump your sh*t out if you let go of me,” the woman warned as her belongings and some other clothing items spilled from her bag, including what looked like metallic coins. The man accused her of stealing before, declaring, “This is the second time,” which she immediately denied.
Frustrated, his tone hardened, “I’m not f***king with you, you do not steal, what kind of woman are you?” Under pressure, she began removing items from her bag but attempted to pack them back and escape. The woman, trying to call the police, immediately stopped her, and, in the scuffle, her wig was removed, intensifying the drama.
Later, the man addressed critics in a follow-up TikTok video. Responding to someone who suggested he should have just run her card, he insisted she had “100 pennies” in her purse and no card at all. He valued the stolen goods at $86 and claimed she had also stolen from his second store.
The video drew attention as some stood solidly behind the man, saying, “They ripped her wig off like the mask of a Scooby Doo villain lol.” Highlighting the man’s frustration, another user noted, “He’s emotional because this happens all the time. If he got locked up for doing his job, I’d be the first to post his bail.”
“Don’t touch me as I steal! The entitlement is mind-blowing,” another amazed user wrote, shocked at the woman’s behavior.
Others, however, condemned his approach. “Fr this dude’s energy is misplaced.” a commenter wrote, suggesting his reaction was over the top.
Calling out the act, this Redditor penned, “This is actually illegal for an employee or just a regular person to do unless you are an officer.” One user summed up the debate with a legal perspective, “Best case scenario, in a court of law, the court will see two separate crimes being committed and try them separately. She’ll get tried for petty theft. You’re getting tried for assault. Hope that was worth civilian justice.”
For now, it remains unclear whether the woman was ultimately handed over to the police.
