Many people love their pets, but seeing a dog on a table in a restaurant, eating off the usual plates, is a sight that’s more commonly found in Florida. A concerned observer and customer of Grumpy’s Restaurant posted a video on Reddit. The video was taken from the opposite table, where the dog and its owners were seated.
The black and white pup was all fours on the table while one of the owner’s hands was seen positioning the plate better for the dog to eat. “Come here,” the dog owner urged. The whole scene made it obvious that this wasn’t some random mistake. The dog owner even repositioned the plate so the dog could eat more comfortably.
Those on the opposite table were taken aback by the sight. The woman behind the camera spoke, saying, “Umm umm, and y’all want to come eat at these people, y’all have to,” she encouraged due to her bewilderment. One of the customer’s voices was captured in the video, saying they would eat with a plastic plate going forward. “I want to eat on the plastic plate now”, they lamented.
Despite the disturbing scene, Grumpy’s Restaurant was clearly not out of business or closing up. The video captured staff members passing back and forth, with the background noise revealing a rowdy and crowded environment. However, no one seemed concerned about the canine’s presence.
In contrast, this video sparked a lot of negative comments from the Reddit community. Although a fellow dog owner, one netizen wrote, “I’m a dog owner, but this… This is nasty.” As if running through every possible scenario or reason why a dog should not be on the table in a restaurant, another user added, “Dogs walk with their hands. Dogs can’t wash their hands. Dogs step in sh*t.”
Someone else lamented, “I’ve seen it all. But this one is too much. The wait staff would need to discard whatever rag they used to clean that up.” One Reddit user shared that watching this video only buttressed their fears about eating out. “Umm, this is nasty. I already don’t eat out, but now I really, really don’t want to eat out.” Deciding that not just the dog owners were at fault here, they continued, “This restaurant should be named & shamed for even allowing this.”
“Health code violation? Oh, wait, Florida,” a user wrote sarcastically as though not surprised. Fed up with this sort of antics, another penned, “The utter lack of shame will be the end of the American experiment.”
