A video has recently resurfaced of a strange animal wreaking havoc on a South Carolina man’s yard. In the video, you can see something appearing to move through the trees, tearing down massive branches as it goes. At one point, several large limbs come crashing down, indicating this is no ordinary animal. Now that some theories have been posed, Reddit thinks they might have the answer… and it might not be Bigfoot.
The video ends with the South Carolina resident saying, “I think I’m gonna bounce, because I think he just hit the ground. Which means he’s about to face me on foot, and I don’t really want to wrestle with someone who can tear a tree down.” A quick sweep of the camera then shows a large branch on the man’s deck. “My God, look at the tree he just freaking broke in half,” he says, audibly shocked.
While the evidence for a large creature is compelling, internet sleuths have been working on this mystery for some time. However, some cryptid theories are still floating around. One user asked, “This is an old video, but making the rounds again. Did anyone ever figure out what was causing all of this movement? Are bigfoots known to climb trees?”
Among many replies confirming this, one said, “I’ve heard several encounters over the years of them being in trees. One that stuck with me is from the show, ‘These Woods Are Haunted.’ A guy tells his encounter where he and his two brothers went in the woods looking for a woman who seemed to be screaming. They got to a certain spot and looked up in a tree to see a hairy man (Sasquatch), their Native American dad warned them about.”
Others argued logic over paranormal theories. One user shared a perfectly typical scenario for why a tree like this would make so much noise. “The most logical explanation I heard the first time this was posted is that there was another tree that had been knocked down, and the sound you hear is it slowly ‘falling’ through the other trees and breaking their branches. If you watch the video closely, you can see there’s a tree leaning sharply from right to left. It’s about in the middle of the picture with about 1:47 left in the video,” they said.
Others were not entirely convinced. One of the most compelling arguments had to do with the timing of the footage. “I agreed, initially. But, him turning it [the flashlight] off elevated the activity, which is why I think he turned it off. Because when it was on, they stopped,” the Reddit user went on, adding more evidence to the mystery. “With that said, when it was off, sometimes I could make out what looked like big masses in the trees, but when he turned it on…they were gone. So weird. Happened a few times. Maybe an illusion. Idk. But when he did keep the light on and focus in, there was nothing there despite branches breaking in the same area. Mind-boggling.”
