Romantic breakups are rarely civilized or mature. Sometimes, one or all of the people involved experience very turbulent emotions, which can lead them to do immature things. For example, this ex-boyfriend in California changed his now ex-girlfriend’s internet password out of revenge. However, the situation only went from bad to worse shortly after the relationship ended.
Redditor Federal-Weight-5949 went to r/legal for advice, as she recently had a fight with her boyfriend that ended in a breakup. However, because they both rent the same place, they did not separate immediately and continued to live together. The sad thing is that the ex-boyfriend, still upset, changed the internet password and turned off the power just to annoy his ex-girlfriend, making living together in their home in California a nightmare. In addition, the ex-boyfriend didn’t even warn her; he just decided to change the passwords and leave a note on the door instead of discussing it with her. Desperate, OP turned to Reddit for help to find out if the ex-boyfriend’s actions were legal.

Sadly, many Redditors believe that there isn’t much that can be done because the ex-boyfriend is on the lease with OP, and he is the one who has all the utilities in his name. But this post goes much further because, between the comments and other posts by OP, she says she is desperately looking for shelter. Apparently, their lease was also about to expire, and the ex-boyfriend wanted OP to leave. OP attempted to negotiate a new lease with the landlord for her and a new roommate. However, the ex-boyfriend spoke to the landlord first, and now they don’t want OP to rent the property again.
To make matters worse, OP says in another post that she had been with her ex for 10 years, and because of the lease problem, she could become homeless in a matter of days. So she is desperately looking for a place in a shelter to stay while she figures out what to do with her life. OP says she doesn’t have anyone close to her to help her. Fortunately, many Redditors are offering jobs and resources so that OP can find the support she needs. Let’s hope this woman can find a quick solution to an ex who wanted to ruin her life.
