The clash between the extreme left and right escalated into a gruesome sight when a group of Charlie Kirk’s supporters pummeled a critic who showed up at the candlelight vigil held in Idaho in honor of the late conservative figure. A video of the disturbing clash surfaced on Reddit just a few hours ago.
The footage showed Kirk’s supporters holding candlelight while some had the flag of the United States of America, chanting “USA” in unison. Tempers flared when a lone critic suddenly screamed, “f**k Charlie Kirk!”The person who recorded the scene anticipated that the guy would be jumped. Heading closer to the commotion, he muttered, “That guy’s gonna get f**ked.” A number of the conservatives swarmed the left-wing supporter and started hitting him. The critic was thrown to the ground as the crowd kicked and threw blows at him. The victim struggled to rise and move away, fighting back.
The critic was overpowered and thrown to the ground again, with about ten men pounding on him. One of these men noticed the person filming the fight and flung his shirt at him as though to stop them from covering the encounter. As if pleased by what was unfolding before them, a MAGA supporter passed by the video and let out a shout of excitement. “F**k yeah!” another screamed.
“Get out!” a couple of people bellowed at the critic. Soon, police officers arrived at the scene and tried to de-escalate the situation. The critic then crossed to the other side of the street and responded to the right side supporters who were still screaming at him, “What happened to free speech?” he asked. One Kirk supporter responded, “You guys killed a guy who’s taking to people. What did happen to free speech?”
As reported by TheNerdStash, Charlie Kirk was shot while talking to students at Utah Valley University, Utah. The shot was aimed squarely at the conservative and hit him on his neck. Kirk was later confirmed dead by President Trump. Most of the comments and reactions following the popular conservative’s shooting and death were far from sympathetic.
Even for the vigil and the brawl that erupted there, the online community left many anti-Kirk comments as well. One commenter was concerned about the priorities of the Kirk supporters, writing, “They don’t come out when kids get shot, yet a politician’s murder sends them into empathetic overdrive. I don’t get it.”
Another Redditor noted, “These people are always causing violence at the Capitol. They can’t help themselves.” A disappointed citizen added, “Imagine holding a vigil for a far-right guy who supported kids dying for 2A but not holding a vigil when school kids die. Idaho should be ashamed. These people holding this vigil are exactly what’s wrong with this nation. Anywho, my heart goes out to all those poor school kids who were murdered just going to school.”
A user agreed with the issue of misplaced priorities, writing, “Kids get shot: thoughts and prayers. Holding a vigil for a hateful douchebag? Extreme bootlicker activity.” Another Redditor’s bone of contention was the carriage of the conservatives. “Why are these flag-sucking goobers chanting USA at a candlelight vigil? I thought those are supposed to be quiet and contemplative, not an obnoxious, loud feces flinging free-for-all.”
Sarcastically, one social media user stated, “This is their George Floyd.”
