The deadly trifecta of huge trucks, speed, and highways is sure to make you appreciate just how much you take road safety for granted, and in one TikTok user’s case, it was a close call. The TikToker was merely driving along a Midland City highway in Michigan when the big semi-truck in front of her started careening out of control and violently swinging across all lanes.
Luckily, no one got hurt. In fact, the truck’s driver was able to steer and clutch the truck and its trailer back in a safe position with minimal damage, well, apart from burnt rubber on the highway. The incident took place on September 5 in Midland City, Michigan. TikTok user Serra Kigar, aka kitchenwitcheryhandmade, managed to film it, and she was also the one driving behind the truck, which had more or less 26 wheels.
In the video, you can see the trailer wobble and skid out of control for 15 seconds, almost hitting the barriers, before the driver managed to straighten out the whole thing. According to Kigar, who contacted the truck’s 20-year-old driver, the drop axle line stopped working and caused a wobble, which then turned into violent swings after the driver stepped on the brakes. The driver then had no choice but to pull the Johnny bar and throttle to save the trailer. In any case, even Kigar was shocked to see how young the driver was.
“Yeah, he’s just a kid, he’s a baby. So, pretty damn good save for an infant in my opinion, like he’s so young. He’s got a great attitude about the video going viral,” says Serra Kigar
What’s even more impressive is that the 20-year-old truck driver only received his Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) eight months ago. He doesn’t want his name out there, for obvious reasons, but he did want people to know what caused the accident and how he powered through it.
People Online Are in Shock and Awe
A semi-truck with 26 wheels swinging out of control on the highway could’ve easily resulted in something far uglier and more expensive, which is why people are in awe of just how lucky and skilled the driver was for saving the situation. Some were also reminded of just how careful they needed to be in the presence of huge vehicles on the road.
“I can promise you that guy had the quietest ride to where ever he was going, no radio, no talking, just two hands on the wheel in silence for the rest of the drive,” says one TikTok commenter
“Iโm gonna slow down and give him whatever lane he wants”
“The next day everyone was looking at the tire marks trying to figure out how exactly that pattern even happens๐”
“FINAL DESTINATION!!”
A debate also ensued in Serra Kigar’s follow-up video because it appears the driver was too young to be handling something so heavy and dangerous. Some even believed that a CDL is only viable for 21-year-olds, but it’s actually legal for anyone above 18 in Michigan as long as they’ll only be driving within the state. The driver has since received the praise he deserves.
“Buddy handled that like an absolute boss! I just know he got home, his partner asked if anything interesting happened today and he said ‘nope!’ ๐”
“I love how the dust settles and he just cruising along again like nothing happened. ๐๐๐๐๐”
