Some people love their pets so much that they insist on taking them absolutely everywhere. While there are plenty of public spaces designed to be pet-friendly, there are also places where bringing animals simply doesn’t make sense. Costco is one of those places. For one California woman, however, she seemed to believe that such a rule did not apply to her. In a video now going viral on Reddit, the woman can be seen being confronted by a Costco employee after she brought her dog inside the store. The employee informed her that animals are not allowed in Costco because it is a health code violation, and asked her to leave. When the staff member requested to see her membership card, the situation suddenly escalated.

Even though she was holding her card in her hand, the California woman immediately snapped. Instead of calmly showing it, she shoved a piece of paper toward the employee’s camera. It seemed clear that she did not appreciate being recorded, and she responded by forcefully pushing the paper against the lens. She continued to shove at the camera until the staff member dropped it, sending the screen to black. The audio, however, kept recording, capturing the growing tension between the two.

In the recording, the California woman could be heard loudly demanding to see a manager. The employee, who had already reached their limit, considered her aggressive behavior to be assault. Voices of other people in the background attempted to calm the situation, but it was obvious that their main goal was to get the woman to leave the store. Despite this, she refused to behave reasonably and showed no willingness to exit.

The reaction online was swift. Many criticized the woman for not only bringing her dog into Costco but also for her aggressive attitude toward staff. One user wrote, “Your pets don’t need to be everywhere with you at all times. Say bye to your Costco membership, Karen.” Others agreed that it was completely inappropriate to take dogs into Costco, pointing out that it’s not just a health hazard but also an unnecessary source of stress for the animals themselves.

Several commenters explained that dragging dogs into crowded, noisy spaces filled with strangers can overwhelm them. “This is what I try to point out to people. It’s ok to not bring your dog shopping, out to lunch, or to grab coffee. I love dogs, but I don’t feel the need to constantly stress mine out by dragging them around with me. Also, sometimes it’s nice not having to worry about their safety when I’m in public. They are great, but you can’t control others,” one user wrote.

Another layer of concern came from people worried about the employee’s job security. Some feared that Costco might side with the customer and unfairly punish the worker for simply doing her job. One comment read, “I have a bad feeling that Costco will fire Sandy. I really hope not, but I don’t have faith in corporations doing the right thing. Not even Costco.”
