Many people have been emotionally impacted by what happened to Charlie Kirk, and some of them are even using the hashtag and slogan: #WeAreCharlie. One woman from California may have taken it too far, as she wanted “Charlie Kirk” on her Starbucks cup. Sadly for her, the barista and Starbucks apparently don’t use political names; the woman’s request was quickly denied, and she was so disappointed that she canceled her order.
The incident was recorded and shared by Valerie Lewis, who is also the customer in question. Apparently, Valerie and her husband went to a Starbucks in Yucaipa, California, around mid-September, and she alleged that it was her husband who first ordered Charlie Kirk’s favorite Starbucks drink. Valerie then claimed that her husband’s order was denied because they “don’t do politics here.”
It appears Valerie herself wanted to confirm it, so she also went in a few hours later and ordered a beverage with the name “Charlie Kirk” on it. The barista then responded with “I could write Charlie” and when Valerie questioned why she couldn’t write the whole name, the barista replied with “because it’s political.” Valerie then canceled her order in a rather annoyed tone.
For the record, Valerie also claimed that she just wanted to honor Charlie Kirk and reasoned out that she never went in talking about politics, even though she was referring to an inherently political event. It also appears the TikTok user is now trying to boycott the particular branch or Starbucks for refusing to write Charlie Kirk on their cups.
She Could’ve Just Written It Herself, According to People Online
People online have since chimed in on the matter, criticizing Valerie Lewis for trying to start a drama with a barista over a coffee cup name. If she wanted it that badly to honor Charlie Kirk, then perhaps the TikTok influencer could’ve just written it herself. Some even found it weird as to why they want Charlie Kirk’s name and drink, but others believe that Valerie was merely trying to get the Starbucks branch canceled.
“Yall are taking this toooo farโฆ” says one TikTok user
“Why would you want ‘Charlie Kirk’ written on your coffee?๐คท๐ปโโ”
“Get a marker and write it yourself since you want it that bad!!๐ณ”
“These MAGA f**** are so god d*** weird,” claims a Reddit user
Other social media users have since labeled Valerie Lewis as some kind of Karen, and maybe even a special one with the MAGA flavor. Thankfully, the barista’s patience and tact didn’t go unnoticed because, according to the viewers, she handled it rather well and kept her cool while dealing with a difficult customer.
“I worked for Starbucks for nearly eight years and itโs always the same thing: Customers thinking that the employees are there to be their little imps and do whatever they want for them. Starbs employees donโt want to affiliate with whatever bad shit is going on in the world, they just want to make a damn cup of coffee and get a paycheck. I applaud the worker for keeping her cool while explaining and prepping. This is entrapment from the person behind the phone either way.”
“Imagine thinking annoying a random service worker is some form of courageous activism.”
“This girl handled her like a champ love that”
