A fiery new clip of Bill Maher is going viral on X after the comedian tore into Hollywood for ignoring the death of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk during the Emmys broadcast. On his show, Maher argued that the industry’s silence was a glaring example of political division in America.
“I mean, the left does have this bad attitude of go no contact… At the Emmys, would it have killed someone to get up there — since they all want to talk about their politics — would it have killed somebody to say, not even how much they liked Charlie Kirk, just to say we had a political assassination this week, and that’s wrong?” Maher said.
He continued, “They would have been booed off the stage because he was on the wrong team. Could you imagine if a left-wing person was assassinated that week? The whole show would have been about that.”
Bill Maher’s Emmy Commentary Goes Viral
The blunt commentary set X ablaze, with one viral post declaring, “Bill Maher just made the Emmys crowd look like absolute MONSTERS for not saying a single word about Charlie Kirk after his death.” Other users chimed in with mixed but passionate reactions, with one writing, “This is probably the best explanation of the severity of the division. We are on ‘teams’ now… The people that attend the Emmys can’t recognize the loss of the people that don’t attend.”
“@billmaher may occasionally be a nutter, but he’s honestly trying to reach across the aisle and cares about his fellow man,” another replied. “He is slowly realizing he’s surrounded by monsters.” A third pointed out the irony, commenting, “Well, hell! Wasn’t @billmaher there?! His show was nominated this year. If he was there, why didn’t HE stand up?!”
And one admirer added, “I’d love to sit down, drink and talk with Bill Maher. I appreciate intellectual honesty… Bill reminds me of a time where we used to be able to do that with people we disagree with.”
Emmys Silent On Kirk, But Not On Politics
While no one at the Emmys mentioned Kirk’s death, the ceremony wasn’t entirely free of political statements. Hacks star Hannah Einbinder, who won Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy, ended her speech by declaring, “F-ck ICE and free Palestine!” Meanwhile, her co-star Megan Stalter showed support on the red carpet with a handbag emblazoned with “CEASE FIRE.” Some stars kept their remarks more open-ended. Hacks icon Jean Smart, who won Best Actress in a Comedy, simply told the crowd, “Be good to each other.”

Still, Maher’s viral rant has fans calling out the alleged double standard that Hollywood speaks up loud and proud when it fits their agenda, but when it comes to Kirk, the silence was deafening.
