President Trump and Melania were in for a big day as they arrived at the United Nations in New York. Trump was supposed to speak at the General Assembly, but, naturally, this couldn’t happen without a little bit of drama. Trump was shocked when he got on the escalator leading to the Assembly and was stopped short in his tracks. Now, the White House is investigating in the belief that the act was intentional. Because why wouldn’t he see a possible malfunction as an attack?
According to Max Foster (of CNN), it is believed somebody at the UN stopped the escalator on purpose. As Max puts it, “Escalator-gate is stepping up.” Max explains the White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt definitely thinks this is sabotage. She shared a screenshot from The Times, which was published on Sunday. It read, “To mark Trump’s arrival, UN staff members have joked that they may turn off the escalators and elevators and simply tell him they ran out of money, so he has to walk up the stairs.”
If someone at the UN intentionally stopped the escalator as the President and First Lady were stepping on, they need to be fired and investigated immediately,” said Karoline Leavitt. When the escalator stopped, Trump and Melania came to a complete halt, and Trump turned to look around. Allegedly, President Trump believes the escalator may have malfunctioned and it wasn’t a deliberate ‘attack.’
“The teleprompter was broken and the escalator came to a sudden halt as we were riding up to the podium, but both of those events probably made the speech more interesting than it would have been otherwise. It is always an honor to speak at the United Nations, even if their equipment is somewhat faulty. Make America Great Again!” Trump posted on Truth Social.
This was one news report where you couldn’t help but laugh upon hearing it. One commenter stated, “The ability to report on this with a straight face is admirable.”
“Investigate whoever turned off the escalator but god forbid you bat an eye towards anyone in the Epstein files,” another pointed out. What a whacky set of priorities.
