Tabletop gaming is certainly expensive, and many Warhammer 40K fans can attest to that. Sadly, expensive hobbies also tend to draw out certain opportunists, like the business owner of a certain Texas-based Warhammer e-shop on eBay. An aggrieved worker was recently fired from this e-shop after he refused to create fake 3D models of Warhammer (presumably 40K). To make matters worse, the man’s former boss is also now withholding his commissions.
This nightmare employment happened to Reddit user Peasekillme of Lewisville, Texas, who is now seeking legal advice online on how to proceed. The Reddit user had a text agreement with his former boss that he’d be paid $10/hr for listing on their eBay Warhammer shop. Additionally, the Reddit user was to receive a 25 percent commission for sales. Things took a troubling turn after the worker refused to 3D-scan Games Workshop models, so fake ones can be sold, as it “would be copyright infringement.”
Hence, the Reddit user was fired after being berated by his boss for this refusal. And while he was paid his $10/hr due, the former worker claims that the 25 percent commission for 268 listed sales wasn’t given to him. “I refused. He fired me, yelled at me multiple times, deleted listings, took unauthorized deductions from my pay, and is withholding commission,” according to the Reddit user.
Now, the aggrieved former employee is seeking not only to receive his commission but also to pursue further legal action. Among those legal actions is also to potentially report his former employer for trying to commit or committing copyright infringement against Games Workshop and its Warhammer models.
The Wage Claim Might be the Least of the Business’s Worries
Thankfully, Texas has some strict wage laws — even for Warhammer resellers — and the Reddit user could just file a rather affordable claim to get what his employer agreed to pay him, especially since he has documentation. “For one month of work, just file a Texas Payday Wage Claim and get what you can,” according to a top-voted advisor on the subreddit.
Others, however, appear to be more curious about the bigger case that the eBay digital reseller could be facing. People have since advised the former worker to keep an eye out for the business’s page to see if he’ll actually list fake Warhammer models, because this could be a strong case that Games Workshop doesn’t take lightly. “Games workshop is one of the most litigious companies when it comes to going after scanners,” according to a fan.
Of course, this would likely be the next step or concern for the Reddit user, as he’ll have to wrestle with his toxic former boss first. Others have pointed out just how egregious the business was as it practically stole from everyone; “He’s stealing from you… He’s stealing from GW [Games Workshop]… He’s stealing from customers.”
