As ICE raids continue in the U.S., regular people and minorities alike are getting accosted. “People need to see what ICE really does,” said one Illinois man, as he recorded his mother getting bossed around by ICE agents. Instead of letting ICE take his mother, the young man stood his ground and stood up for his mother. And luckily for them, they got to walk away so they could live to share their victory.
Los J shared his encounter with ICE on TikTok, revealing once again how much they try to intimidate immigrants. He says that his mom was followed out of her neighborhood by agents on her way to work. When Los arrived on scene, he found his 50-year-old mother was already in handcuffs and they were putting her in the back of a patrol vehicle. Los pulled out paperwork and the agent allegedly pulled a gun on him.
In the video, you can see the ICE agent taking a look at his valid state-issued ID. When Los speaks to them and demands answers, they keep telling him to “calm down” or else he’s going to “end up in cuffs.” They also tell him they took the cuffs off his mom but they’ll arrest him “for obstruction” if he continues. When Los asks them what his mom did wrong, they go completely silent and refuse to answer him.
As the ICE agents are getting back in their vehicles, Los points out one of the agents is Black. He says, “You’re a Black man, bro. You should at least have some dignity in yourself.” It’s funny how quickly they flee the scene after he calls them out and demands answers on behalf of his mother’s near-arrest.
“Let’s be clear these are not cops. They don’t deserve the respect of being treated like cops. They are ICE agents, racially profiling and targeting people who are simply living their lives,” Los says in the caption of his video. He said ICE is about “ripping families apart” and intimidating them.
“They literally can’t answer one question,” said one commenter, likely in as much shock as I was. Another person pointed out, “Talking about calm down but I bet if this was HIS mom in cuffs they’d have put holes in them. Idk you but I’m proud of you! You did not hold back.” And good timing, too. If Los had showed up a minute later, his mother would’ve been gone without a trace.
