Recalls on food items happen a lot. Sometimes, it’s due to a possible public health concern. Other times, the correlation between a foodborne illness and the product in question cannot be denied. That seems to be the case with pasta Walmart stores sell nationwide. According to a California woman on TikTok, this isn’t the first time the brand has been recalled for listeria contamination. And now, at least four people have sadly lost their lives.
On September 26th, spillindeetea made a video addressing the recent USDA recall of a prepackaged pasta from Walmart. She claimed that at least twenty people who consumed the pasta contracted listeria. Many weren’t in California, but in other states, and four of them have passed away. Among those who died was a mother who was pregnant at the time. Perhaps the most surprising is that this is the second occurence of listeria contamination for the same food brand:
If you don’t remember, this same pasta, but the fettucine alfredo version back in June, was linked to listeria as well. So I really wouldn’t be playing around with it.
Per her TikTok caption, the following prepackaged pasta is the one that is raising concern now: 12-oz clear plastic tray packages labeled “Marketside Linguine with Beef Meatballs & Marinara Sauce.” The recall is not just for the west coast, but for all the USA.
California Act of Service Spreads Listeria Awareness
She goes on to list some more details from her California home, including the “best if used by” dates on the ones that consumers should now throw away. Urging Walmart shoppers to go through their fridges and freezers, she reminds them it’s better to be safe than sorry. Listeria isn’t a thing to take lightly, as it’s a deadly disease.
The pasta in question should no longer be on any Walmart shelves. Still, TikToks like these can be helpful for those who may have missed the recent USDA recall announcements and already purchased this product for a future meal. Thanks to spillindeetea for doing her due diligence and making sure her message spreads from California to the rest of the nation as well.
