On Saturday, just as Selena Gomez said “I do” to music producer Benny Blanco in Santa Barbara, Justin Bieber was doing something a lot less dramatic.
He spent the day playing basketball and posting casual selfies. Unfortunately for him, fans saw the overlap in the timing as something they just couldn’t ignore, according to the Daily Mail. Fans were quick to notice Justin’s song choice for the post, and it was game on from there.
“Anybody think it’s funny how the song he chose is ‘I Do’ an Instagram user penned, and one added, ‘Kinda wild to post this “I do” on the day his ex gets married?” one fan asks suspiciously.
Selena’s wedding was the star-studded fairytale event people expected. While the bride and groom glowed with happiness, fans took the opportunity to haunt Justin Bieber with the ghost of Jelena. Needless to say, this turned Justin’s social media pages into a real circus.

It didn’t take long before Bieber’s Instagram was flooded with gifs, snarky comments, and mocking reminders that his ex had just walked down the aisle. Some fans twisted the knife further by pointing out he’d posted about his song “I Do” just as Selena was saying the words to someone else. Coincidence? Who knows, but it was something many couldn’t let go unnoticed.
“The love of your life just got married,” one commenter writes. “You never get over your first love,” adds another. “He seems fragile and unwell. I hope he will get help,” states one more. “Why are people still obsessed with them and a childhood relationship?” demands another.
Justin has been married to Hailey Bieber since 2018. They have since welcomed their first child together. Selena, meanwhile, is stepping into her own new chapter with Benny Blanco, and the two appear to be happier than ever.
Despite the fact that the whole Jelena saga is long gone. That is, except in the imaginations of fans who seem determined to drag it out. So why was Bieber dragged through the mud on Selena’s wedding day?
Most likely because some fans clearly can’t resist creating drama where there isn’t any. Sure, it makes for entertaining scrolling, but at this point, it’s starting to feel more sad than spicy. However, as long as Justin Bieber places even the smallest amount of doubt in his fans’ heads, they will ensure both he and Selena Gomez will always be forced to live with the ghost of what might have been.
