Washington Writer Has Valid Crash Out Over Grocery Prices and Cost of Living, ‘No one is questioning why we have to live this way’

She’s 100% right

If you’re the average American, you’re feeling the rising prices on everything. Even gaming hasn’t escaped the problem. A writer in Washington had a valid TikTok crash out when she realized just how much she’s spending on groceries every month for her family. Now, she’s taking a close look at her life and what sacrifices she may have to make just to afford to live. It makes you wonder how regularly people can afford to live in the wealthiest country in the world.

@saratbond

I can’t. It’s impossible to raise and sustain a family on a single income. My husband is amazing and more than provides for us, but if things continue like this I’m going to have to get a job just to afford to feed our kids. Grocery budgets are insane. Mortgage payments are insane. Gas prices, after school activities, keeping pants long enough to for my growing kids?! It’s impossible.

“My grocery budget crashout,” said the caption of Sara Bond’s TikTok video. According to Sara, her grocery bill was $1200, and that was just for the month. Sara makes it clear they weren’t eating fancy, like steaks; in fact, she said they’re barely eating meat at this point. She also stated they don’t go out to eat and they have a lot of nights where she doesn’t cook and the kids just eat Ramen. When Sara looks at the very little groceries they’re buying, she wonders, “How are we spending $1,200 in a month on groceries? This is unsustainable. How do we live like this?”

As Sara points out, it may cost her family everything. She currently lives as an author and writes novels. She says her husband provides for her family but, “if things continue like this, I’m going to have to get a job just to afford to feed our kids.” It’s been forcing many Americans to seek side gigs or a whole second job.

Imagine spending so much time working diligently as a writer and you have to fear putting that dream aside just because of the rising cost of groceries. This is no way to live for so many people. Sara says the price of everything, from mortgages to after-school activities is “impossible.”

“Everyone in the comments has their little advice about how to cut corners but no one is questioning why we have to live this way. Life is meant to be enjoyed, but suffered through,” one commenter argued. Another person commented, “It’s not just the food! Last week I spent $38 on just coffee and toilet paper. Both Walmart brand…”

What Sara Bond’s video highlights the lie that a single-income household is just incredibly difficult right now during President Trump’s administration. Most people can’t afford an $400 emergency. How are parents meant to raise their children if both parents are working 9-to-5s or working double shifts?
