Modern society widely accepts independence as a concept and often encourages it. Many choose to live and travel on their own by choice. Yet there’s also no denying that current affairs in most places don’t exactly coincide with safe and sound environments. This is especially true for independent travelers. A Boston influencer has used his TikTok platform to inform solo globetrotters why it’s unwise to publicly share their vacation specifics in 2025.
The Boston TikToker, whose channel @laughandgrindnew often covers missing persons cases, was concerned after seeing a travel post. The person in question announced they were planning to go to Aruba alone. They not only shared the location, but also the date that they were leaving. They even asked if traveling by themselves was safe.
Laughandgrindnew urged his viewers to stop making public announcements like this. Then, in his famous Boston accent, he explained why he believes it to be a bad idea:
First off, do you not live in 2025? Have you not seen a single true crime documentary? Have you not looked at my page in the last year?
He goes on to mention that most public forums are bound to have dishonest members, and even criminals. The Boston influencer warns that detailed travel information posts double as announcements about unattended homes. With today’s technological advancements, it would only take minutes for crooks to access someone’s home address, using their public credentials.
Boston TikToker Talks Crime To Solo Travelers
By cutting details down, Laughandgrindnew feels that risks for solo travelers would be significantly lower. The Boston man urges them to leave all dates out of any announcement they make.
Viewers were of the same mindset. One person backed him up with, “Agree 1000% this is so dangerous. I usually post vacay pics after I am back home. Stay safe folks!”
Others echoed similar sentiments, urging solo travelers never to post on vacation. Whether or not you agree that posting in “real time” is any more dangerous, one thing is for sure. The world is a dangerous place right now, and many violent criminals are no longer hiding in the shadows. This is true whether you’re going to national cities like Boston or traveling out of the country. Live your best life, but be smart, and stay safe.
