Racism in all shapes and forms is always deeply saddening. Not only does it dehumanize other fellow human beings, but it can also be a source of significant pain and trauma for those who’ve experienced it themselves firsthand. Recently, an elderly lady in Texas was caught on camera hurling racial slurs at a young man outside of a store. Making matters worse, the woman (read: Karen) even threw a shovel at the man, though no-one was hurt during the incident, thankfully.
The video opens in the parking lot outside the store, and while the initial buildup to the altercation isn’t shown, the woman’s hateful slurs can be heard clearly. Sporting a multi-colored patterned short-sleeve blouse, knee-length grey shorts, and black slip-on shoes, the elderly woman is stood next to her white SUV vehicle, which notably has a Texas licence plate.
“You shop in this store way too much,” exclaims the woman at the beginning of the footage. In response, the man states, “Yeah, I know. You’re going to jail, Boo.” The next part is where the woman begins to show her true colors, as she fires, “You damn [expletive] think you can do what you wanna do.” In pure shock, the man attempts to laugh off the hateful slurs, and utters, “She gotta go. What is wrong with these people, bro? This is too early.“
Meanwhile, as the man is speaking, the Karen goes into her car and brings out a large shovel, and she approaches him holding it, menacingly. While she’s doing so, the man says, “Ma’am–” but is cut off as she seemingly throws the shovel at him. The camera shakes to and fro, and you can hear the clatter of the shovel. As the camera stops shaking, you can see that the man is now holding the shovel in his left hand.
Awkwardly chuckling to himself, it sounds like the man exclaims, “You gonna go to jail. I just got assaulted” to one of the employees in the store. The store worker replies, “Yeah, I know. I got her.” The footage then switches to a security feed that has captured the incident from a different angle, and you can clearly see the woman deliberately throw the shovel at the man.
As the clip continues to circulate online, social media users took to the comments to share their views on the saddening footage. As expected, the majority of comments were left aghast at the racist woman’s words and actions. Many commenters were curious about whether she did end up going to jail, with one writing, “So did she go to jail 🤔” and another adding, “please tell me she got charged“. Others, meanwhile, joked that the elderly woman would somehow find a way to make herself the victim, with one penning on Instagram, “She’ll report that she was robbed of her shovel and suffered emotional distress.” A fourth comment simply read, “Make sure you press charges, they need to learn the hard way.”
Unfortunately, at the time of writing, it’s unclear whether the man has pressed charges. However, due to the sheer virality of the clip, I’m sure the Karen’s now regretful of her awful behavior. Hopefully, anyway.
