It’s becoming increasingly more dangerous to be a woman in this world. Unfortunately, there have been way too many cases of men being hostile toward women or hurting them for reasons unknown. In California, a man seemingly faking injuries to lure women into his vehicle has been spotted, and women who have experienced his conniving plan firsthand are sharing their stories. What’s even worse (if you can imagine that) is that this man’s tactics are incredibly similar to those used by famous serial murderer Ted Bundy. Can’t we just get a break?

Thank you @ilsey for sharing this photo and thank you to everyone who has reached out with their own experience or shared safety tips. Let’s keep looking out for one another, LA.

The above video details a terrifying experience that Liz, whose username is @therealliz3, endured while in California. She claims that a man stopped her while in her vehicle and asked if she could help him move a box from his passenger seat to his trunk. The reason he was unable to do it himself was because of a supposed arm injury. Fortunately, the woman knew that this was likely fake and declined to help before speeding away. After having shared her story, commentators noted that this particular tactic was also used by Ted Bundy to lure women into his car.

In response to her initial video, other women came forward with their own experiences, with one person even able to share a photo of him that also included the make, model, color, and license plate of the car he’s been seen with. Commentators, many of which were women, were quick to condemn the man’s actions and even explain a little bit of why there’s a certain stereotype around women, saying, “When men ask why women watch true crime it’s because we’re learning.”

That particular comment gutted me, because it really is a stereotype that women are into true crime television shows and podcasts. In reality, the reason is to be able to identify red flags should they ever find themselves in those same situations. One commentator made note of this and replied with, “I once heard “no grown man needs the help of a woman they don’t know” and that’s stuck with me.” As someone who has been approached by random men to do some sort of task for them, I agree wholeheartedly.

As the woman continues speaking in the video, it is learned that police officers are unable to do anything about the man because an actual crime has not been committed. Unfortunately, the man will need to actually act in order for officers to begin investigating his odd behavior.
