When you buy food at a restaurant, you expect it to be at least edible. Of course, when you’re buying something at a cheap price, you definitely shouldn’t expect a five-star restaurant experience. However, the restaurant should at a minimum provide something that is both edible and sanitary. Yet that is not always the case, as Redditor u/totally_not_destiny experienced. They explained that they went to buy a pie at Bill Miller’s on San Pedro in San Antonio, Texas, when they unexpectedly discovered something very disgusting. Embedded into their pie was a full-grown fly that appeared to be baked into the pie filling itself. Freaked out and disgusted, the San Antonio customer quickly returned the pie to the restaurant, where a refund was issued. The customer also claimed that the store manager didn’t seem overly surprised to see a fly in the pie they sold, which added to their disappointment.
Of course, the Redditor didn’t just keep this experience to themselves. They shared it on Reddit, posting photos of the “fly pie” that left many users horrified. “You want flies with that?” one user joked. Other Redditors who saw the post were understandably shocked and disgusted. Many couldn’t believe that the restaurant staff or manager had failed to notice such an obvious problem before serving the food. Some remarked that one of the workers must have seen the fly when slicing the pie. “Bro someone had to go in and slice that pie… no way they missed that 😲” one user wrote.
Others, however, suggested that this kind of unhygienic situation should not come as a surprise. “Their warehouses don’t have A/C. The working conditions for the staff down there are awful! Flies are present. I used to staff for them and toured the warehouses often,” another user commented.
User u/totally_not_destiny agreed with this statement, even saying that the manager from the Bill Miller’s location, where they bought the “fly pie,” had openly admitted to such unsanitary conditions. This detail added to the overall frustration and disbelief among commenters. Some Redditors also remarked that the manager was likely being paid minimum wage and probably didn’t care much about protecting the company’s reputation.
Several commenters stated that after seeing the post, they had decided to stop eating at Bill Miller’s altogether. Others admitted they had never been to Bill Miller’s before, but now planned to avoid it completely.
“Been in San Antonio over 20 years and never had Bill Miller’s, shout out to ALL of you who keep reminding me not to go, blessings upon you and your families, may you get every green light and your pillows remain cool, always,” one user wrote, gaining many upvotes from amused locals.
