Firefighters are called heroes for a reason. And in one California community, not only does the department fight fire, but they can fight ICE, too. In a resurfaced video from June, a firetruck arrives at the scene, with sirens blaring, forcing ICE vehicles to back up from the street as the firefighters rush to their destination. Obviously, saving lives is more important than terrorizing them, so the agents had no other choice but to get out of the way of the firetruck.
The oppressive immigration agents haven’t been well-received by the California locals, and for good reason, as protestors have been doing their best to keep Trump’s goons from claiming another innocent victim. But thanks to the firefighters doing their duty, the firetruck’s squad was able to do two good deeds at once. Unfortunately, ICE is backed by the federal government, so it’s inevitable that agents would return to wreak havoc. But the anti-ICE crowd on the scene was more than happy for this small win. After the firetruck passed, plenty of people could be seen cheering as they reclaimed the area.
“It’s videos like this that make me think there’s still hope yet,” comments a Redditor reacting to the firetruck pushing ICE back. “Fire and EMS are heroes. If I ever call 911 it’s for one of them,” adds another commenter, pointing out how the police have been anything but a help these days. A third remarks how ICE is “absolutely hated by the public everywhere they go.” Considering how the agents are the ones primarily causing public chaos and terrorizing residents, it’s no wonder that people want them out of their communities.
Others chime in that this scene with the firefighters pushing out ICE is almost symbolic in a way, with the far right needing to be pushed out of power to bring back balance and peace. But until that happens, many find it reassuring that brave people are out there and willing to take a stand.
