While it’s no secret that many Americans who voted for Donald Trump are now regretting their vote, the woe is doubly so for pregnant Texans, at least according to a TikToker who made a satirical skit about late-stage abortions and Texas‘ abortion laws. In the skit, the Texas woman’s character in the fictional scenario has choices: either die from septic shock by giving birth to a potentially dead baby or go out of state to have a late-term abortion because her pregnancy is too high-risk. Turns out Texas only allows the first option:
Pamela Wurst Vetrini is the TikToker in question, and she shared her fictional problem on her TikTok account. She made her page to expose the fallacies and “absurdity” of MAGA policies, and this time, her pregnant Texas woman skit went viral with more than 3.5 million views. You have to give props to her acting abilities, though, as well as her script, which, while a fictional story, is based on a fact about Texas, meaning it is a possible scenario:
“In this state, you’re not allowed to operate on a woman who loses the baby. You have to go into labor naturally, and you have to deliver the baby. If you have a dead baby in your uterus for that long, you could go into septic shock and die,” according to Vetrini and her skit.
The skit has since convinced many people that Vetrini’s predicament was real. However, Vetrini posted a video afterward with a disclaimer, “the facts are real, the stories are not,” and that her posts are “engage-bait” pieces. Still, many sympathetic people offered to drive her to New Mexico or help her with the late-stage abortion, much to Vetrini’s surprise.
The TikToker opened a can of worms
“I cannot believe everyone is falling for it, but also it seems like the wrong side is falling for it,” worries Vetrini. While there were many offers for help, some also threatened Vetrini by trying to notify her employer of what she was doing, regardless of whether they fell for the skit or not.
Vetrini once again assured everyone that her videos are only satire and are meant to expose MAGA ideals by posing as an uneducated MAGA voter. Some of her viewers, however, have praised her acting skills for being a little too dedicated and convincing, “Girl! You ATE that! I was CONVINCED ๐ญ.”
In any case, it appears Vetrini’s satire experiment is working only a little too effectively as it’s fooling both sides of the political spectrum. The TikToker continues to produce more skits and also educates people to the best of her abilities through satirical stories about real policies and incidents.
