Despite having visited both the UK and Ukraine without any special security treatment, Prince Harry is back to seeking royal protection from the British government. This isn’t the Prince’s first rodeo, as he fought hard several years ago to receive special protective treatment as royalty, despite having separated himself from the Royal Family. According to The Times, Prince Harry wants UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to get involved on his behalf to acquire taxpayer-funded security for him and his family.
“I would ask the prime minister to step in,” Harry told the home secretary and her predecessor, demanding that a “risk management board be conducted…very, very carefully.” A month ago, when Prince Harry was touring Ukraine, he told The Guardian that he was willing to spend more time in the UK, even with his children, despite his claims of risks to their security. At the time, many felt that this proved Harry didn’t actually care much about protection, as opposed to being given privileges by King Charles regarding his safety. However, it appears the issue is still on the wayward Prince’s mind, as he’s demanding that politicians get involved in the matter, despite the government having denied his request years ago.
Still, Prince Harry’s request confuses many fans, as his repeated trips to the UK have been uneventful thus far, not to mention his wife Meghan Markle was just fine during her recent trip to Paris. All this “supports the view that he doesnโt require special security,” argues a commenter. Another claims he is just trying to use a politician to override a judicial decision to prove his authority as King Charles’s son. “And how is this not deeply embarrassing to Charles? The push to freeload off taxpayers seems like it would be so cringe,” remarks one individual.

Many commenters are upset at Prince Harry’s audacity to ask for taxpayer-funded security instead of a private firm protecting his family. “I think the British people should sue him for continually wasting their resources,” angrily chimes in a Reddit user. “Taxpayers…are already struggling with NHS cuts and cost of living. He thinks those people OWE him,” adds another commenter.
Some Royal Family followers believe this demand is a reaction to how Harry’s big meeting with Charles didn’t go as planned. It has already been reported that the King was rather upset after his son left, muttering that “he’s not listening.” Whether that comment refers to the Prince’s revisited request for royal private security is doubtless confidential, but it wouldn’t be too far-fetched, now that this request with the Prime Minister has taken place.
