Lessons a little girl in Texas had learned from her mother came in handy when she swiftly rescued her brother during a play session. A video posted on X showed two siblings, a boy and a girl. The girl, who was taller, seemed to be the game master of the fun they were having on the trampoline.
Both of them stood on the trampoline holding candy in their hands as the girl counted down to the start of the game. “In three, two, one,” she said, and they immediately threw the candy into their mouths before bouncing excitedly on the trampoline. While the girl continued bouncing on her feet, the boy fell onto the trampoline, hitting his whole body against it. Within moments, he appeared to be choking, and his sister quickly noticed.
“Are you okay?” she asked immediately, hitting his back heavily and repeatedly. The boy placed both hands on his chest, struggling to cough up the candy he was choking on. She lifted him slightly in an effort to help him throw it up, and after a few tense moments, her attempt succeeded. He finally managed to release the candy from his throat. “Are you okay? Hold on, let me go get mom,” she said before running toward the camera and turning it off.
The caption accompanying the post clarified that they were siblings, identifying them as Logan and Leah James. Leah, the sister, had jumped into action and performed the Heimlich manoeuvre, a technique she learned from her mother, when her brother began choking. As expected, the post gathered numerous comments as netizens praised the girl for her fast action.
“Seriously. Her quick thinking may have saved his life,” someone wrote firmly. Praising both the sister and mother, another commented, “This both broke and warmed my heart. What an amazing sister. And mother!” Another user added, “Good lord, that’s scary. Way to react so quickly, Leah!!” More praise followed as one person pointed out, “Wow, what an incredible little girl. Bravo to her parents for teaching her. Now, as for the little boy, someone should teach him not to lie down backwards with something in his mouth. That’s so dangerous.”
Highlighting the importance of her act, another user wrote, “She deserves recognition. Hopefully, this will go viral and parents will focus on children learning these types of first aid techniques.” This user noted joyfully, “Omg, my heart went into my throat ❤️ I’m so glad she knew what to do!!!”
In a more cheerful tone, another commented, “That’s a sister who knows how to act fast on her feet. Those siblings will be reminiscing about that for decades to come. Imagine how the parents must feel.” However, while many praised the parents, one user criticized their negligence while still commending Leah: “Where were the parents? Why were they not watching their children while they were jumping on a trampoline without a net? And why do they have hard candy????? 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 Thank God for his sister!! What a hero!! He’s good all the time!!”
Due to her heroic act, Leah will receive recognition from the Lavon City Council next month. She definitely deserves it.
