Since Day 1 of President Trump’s time in office, he said he would be working to lower grocery prices. But, as inflation goes, they only seem to be getting more expensive. With prices skyrocketing constantly, there seems to be no relief for many. A TikToker decided to ask her audience how much they think a friend spent on groceries in North Carolina. She takes a close look at his cart. The results may be shocking to you.
Ashley (@ashlelnok) asked her TikTok audience in a video, “Where are these lower grocery prices at again?” She said that she was hanging out with a friend last weekend. Her brother texted her and asked her, “Guess how much I just spent for groceries at Walmart in North Carolina?” He sent her a picture of his cart so they could take a look.
Ashley shared the picture with her TikTok audience. It featured a decent array of groceries but nothing spectacular and definitely not enough to last even two weeks. There was enough to make some meals including spinach, bagels, a cake, some hamburger, salsa, and some prepackaged salad mixes. It’s what you would see a typical family eat in a couple of days.
When Ashley was done showing the groceries, she asked her audience, “What do ya’ll guess the price was?” She then pans over to his next text message, which shows that he spent a whopping $496 for just that relatively small cart of groceries. Remember that, when it comes to a lot of grocery stores, Walmart tends to run on the cheaper side. So, this is truly astonishing and a reality that so many of us face today.
Commenters, too, were baffled but not completely surprised because they have also been feeling the rise in prices. One commenter shared, “I did a Walmart pick up order and it was so high my bank’s fraud department called me to make sure my card wasn’t compromised, and I’m buying groceries for me and my two adult children.” Another person stated, “There are a whole lotta moms out here skipping meals so their kids can eat. Food prices, even when you don’t buy convenience foods – are too high and are about to get worse.” It’s unreal.
