While I am not a parent at all, I can only imagine that one of the most terrifying things a parent could experience is the feeling of not being there for their children at crucial moments. I want to think that this can be relevant to anyone’s child, but the hatred and misogyny that women and young girls face daily is probably so terrifying for a father to imagine. One father in Connecticut shared a terrifying story that his daughter had told him that involved a friend of hers being almost trafficked by a man she did not know. Fortunately, the father had a few words of advice that he took to the internet to share because, at the end of the day, you can never be too careful.
The above video was posted by a Connecticut father, who is also a radio personality and WTNH At the Movies host, telling the story of something terrifying that happened to his daughter’s friend. After walking into a Starbucks for a coffee, his daughter’s friend noticed a man staring at her intently, so she decided to get her drink and leave. However, once she was inside her vehicle, that same man tried to flag her down and warn her that one of her rear tires was flat, and that she needed to get out to look at it. Fortunately, the girl responded from inside the car that, using her dashboard, she could see there was nothing wrong with her tires. After a short time, the young girl decided to take the opportunity to leave through an opening and make her way out of the parking lot.
After hearing the story, the man’s daughter asked for advice on what to do in this situation, suggesting alternatives that could happen to anyone. What if the person had slashed her tires while she was inside the restaurant, forcing the girl inside to get out? What if there isn’t enough space to try to go around the man without hurting him? In fact, there were so many different possibilities that the father couldn’t help but feel as though he had failed his daughter by not getting her a better car.
Fortunately, the father kept a cool head and explained that as long as the situation is a matter of life and death, you should do everything in your power to get away. Various commentators agreed with this, with one of the top comments saying, “drive on the flat. ignore the man, don’t be afraid to hurt feelings. you do not owe ANYONE kindness.” More specifically, the commentator is referring to what would happen if you actually do have a flat tire and decide to drive away. Even if the rim of your wheel is absolutely destroyed in the process, at least you were able to get away safely.
Other commentators were more focused on comforting the father, saying, “ps. do not call yourself a failure. Money cant buy a parent who genuinely loves and cares for their child. โค.” Regardless of what sort of car someone drives, they should never be a victim of someone who only wants to hurt them.
