While the world struggles with wars, economic crises, and far more pressing issues, a young woman in Maryland was more concerned about crab geography. She threw a tantrum because the crab in her Maryland crab cake was not from Maryland. A video posted on TikTok showed an already frustrated worker, who just wanted the woman gone, responding to the local woman who was recording the entire exchange.
“Take your food and [expletive] off kindly,” the man said, gesturing to the exit.“Oh, really, and you sell what kind of crab cakes at G&M?” she fired back, to which the man responded sarcastically, “Your mother’s. Get out!” The worker appeared surprised by the woman’s complaints, as she had already eaten the meal in question.
The disgruntled customer asked, “Where does this crab meat come from?” and then spoke to the camera. “I’m in G&M right now,” she began as she turned the camera to the worker’s face, who waved at the camera, unbothered. The local woman went on to explain that she had called to verify the crab’s origin after she bought it. According to her, the man informed her that it was either from Venezuela, Indonesia, or North America.
“So you do not sell Maryland crab cakes,” she accused. The G&M worker responded with a smug smile, “They are Maryland crab cakes.” When the local woman then asked why they were called Maryland crab cakes, the worker responded calmly, “Because they are made in Maryland.” She went on calling the worker a “fake” and a “fraud” before promising to get him on the news for this, to which the worker responded, “Demetruis is my name.”
The clip sparked different reactions from netizens. One user wrote sarcastically, “I was absolutely appalled the other day when I found out that the onions in my French onion soup were not from France,” inserting an eyeroll emoji. Another added, “Nah, that’s a perfect case of she gets what she asked for.” Another user joked, “Wait till she finds out about French fries,” while one noted, “Perhaps Karen should ask about the crab cake before she buys it? Instead of deciding after she eats it, she wants her money back.”
A netizen stated the entire display was basic clout chasing, “ Doesn’t understand that crabs can be from anywhere but cooked and turned into a dish in different areas and sues. Anything for attention these days.” Another asked, astonished, “She thinks crabs understand statelines!?!” The sarcasm continued with some praising Demetruis’ response to the situation, “She don’t want no immigrant crabs! This is murica. Jfc, people suck… I love that he said ‘Take your food and [expletive] off.”
A user wondered, “Why can’t people just take their L and leave? Even if she didn’t like or thought he lied, just don’t go back again. Or maybe leave a bad review. She didn’t prove anything, but she’s an asshole.”
