The Chicago ICE raids have reached an all-time high, and nowhere is off-limits. ICE agents have been chasing residents down on public property, tear-gassing entire neighborhoods, and arresting peaceful protestors. And now, not even places of business are free of police brutality.
A video shared by @durvedya on Reddit shows just how bad the situation is getting. It shows a person running through Walgreens as several ICE agents actively pursue him. As one agent rounds the corner of an aisle, the woman recording can be heard screaming at the agents to get out. She then exits the store, panning the camera to show an officer restraining a man on the ground.
“He’s a citizen! He’s a citizen!” she repeats to the officer, who refuses to release his hold. “That’s my brother-in-law!” At this, the ICE agent looks up at her while continuing to pin down her family member. “You don’t know what’s going on, so get the [expletive] back!” he says. Afterward, the video ends as another agent forces her and several other people away, while drivers passing by beep their horns.
Those watching the video on Reddit were outraged. Many shared similar feelings toward ICE agents and how often they cross the line. “The KKK wore hoods too,” one user commented. Another added, “I find it very strange there haven’t been any videos of these fascists being gunned down yet. Almost like they’re not arresting dangerous people.” One user echoed this thought, saying, “Pol Potts, Stalin, Hitler, all did the same thing at the start, history shows us, I hope it doesn’t happen again.”
As the comments went on, some opted for action over words. One Reddit user shared the upcoming No Kings protest, encouraging people to use their voices to be part of something bigger. “Everyone who feels enraged by this travesty of justice and human decency, please attend the No Kings national protest this Saturday, October 18th. Find an event near you here: https://www.nokings.org/,” they commented.
